Marpole is the southernmost neighbourhood in Vancouver with quick access via Arthur Laing bridge or Oak Street bridge into Richmond. Marpole is one of the oldest areas established by ancient First Nation. In 1860’s it was first established as Eburne Station and separate from Vancouver. It was then connected by BC Electric railway linking north to Dunbar, and Kitsilano as well as eastward causing rapid growth as a light industrial area with residential support. In 1929 it joined Vancouver as a neighbourhood.

Marpole location and rezoning

Marpole’s has 4 major roads (Granville, Oak, Cambie Streets, and S.W. Marine Dr.) cutting through it. Most of the commercial and retail developments are along these roads. The remainder of most of Marpole is single family residential, apartments, condos, low-rise apartments and make up one of the most affordable West side neighbourhoods in Vancouver. Due to its prime location, rezoning into a denser area has met significant concern for residents since 2014.

Marpole

Marpole is a thriving neighbourhood and many consider it a hidden gem. Being situation in the west part of vancouver and next to significantly more expensive neighbourhoods like Southlands, South Granville, South Cambie, Oakridge, and its easy access to many parts of the city, it is a highly convenient area to live. The neighbourhood is friendly for families and single professionals and has great schools nearby. In fact one of the very first strict montessori pre-schools was established in Marpole.

Marpole has lots of community organized activities available.

Marpole Oakridge Community Centre, Marpole Soccer Club, Marpole Baseball Club, and Marpole Curling Club are just a few of the community associations in Marpole and is made available to all residents. Additionally, the small retail stores along Granville and S.W. Marine is anchored by some large convenient stores.
