Quilchena, translates to “flat place near the water,” and has a neighbourhood history that goes back to the 1960s. CP Railway leased land to the Quilchena Golf Course but in 1965 the lease expired, the Parks Board bought the land and gave the park a facelift. The Park is right in the middle of the West side of Vancouver and is a green oasis with a view of the north shore mountains that makes it very west coast. It is the anchor of the neighbourhood in both location and spirit. Once you lift your spirits in the park, a short walk takes you to coffee or shopping on Arbutus or W.41st. Kerrisdale.

Peaceful Quiet neighbourhood

The quality of life in Quilchena is exemplary peaceful west side living. With easy access to amenities, recreation and quick access to downtown, UBC, or Kerrisdale, it is a great anchor location. There are many home styles in “micro-hoods” found in various areas. There are 1960s single-family dwellings, low-rise condos, townhouses, and low rise apartment units. Large estate homes bump up against the eastern side beside Shaughnessy. Great views and smaller homes are found around Quilchena Park. With this eclectic mix, this neighbourhood is suitable for downsizers, young families, UBC students/workers, professionals, and seniors alike.

Eco Friendly future

Quilchena shares in the Arbutus shopping centre and village redevelopment. Plans for affordable housing will ensure that more than 20% of the new units will be available for seniors and rental units. There are also green energy and waste considerations in this development. Rain water will also be considered for collection, filtration, reuse, and landscaping use. The community plan will include:

  • A Neighbourhood House (for public community use)
  • A Seniors Centre
  • A Recreation Centre+Indoor Swimming Pool (for strata owners)
  • A Public Square (with public art component)
  • Urban Agriculture
