What is main pedestrian walkway in Kitsilano?…. The Beach. Here, the laid back atmosphere washes over the beach right onto the neighbourhood streets. It is no surprise that this community – full of environmental and health conscious active pacifists – was the birthplace of Greenpeace, Lululemon activewear, and the 100 mile diet. Most of the commercial activity lies along West 4th Ave. and along West Broadway. And if you are looking for lifestyle products, Kitsilano is the place to shop.
Kits History
Although Kitsilano historically started with a majority of single family homes on wide lots and Tudor revival architecture, the 40s and the war brought simple form modern homes (think aircraft hangars and flat roofs). Growing demand and revised zoning brought in apartments, laneway houses, concrete rooming houses and apartments. This is now one of the most densely populated areas in Vancouver but don’t worry, be happy, it is still a laid back community.
Kits Lifestyle
There is so much to do in this neighbourhood. Kitsilano has waterfront, watersports and whatever your heart desires. There is music with Vancouver Academy of Music, H.R. Macmillan space centre and Vancouver Museum. Did you say Festival? yes…Bard on the Beach, Folk Music Fest, Khatsahlano Music + Art Festival, Winter Wander, International Children’s festival, International volleyball tournaments, and more.
